Michael’s Story

In August 2023 Michael began experiencing small fever and cough as well as a couple of nose bleeds. His parents decided to take him into the ER and left with news they never saw coming - Michael was diagnosed with leukemia. He immediately underwent surgery and began chemotherapy treatment. The Frescas family now finds themselves in the whirlwind of treatment - Michael currently goes to the hospital twice a week. One day for chemotherapy and a checkup/labs and a second time for physical therapy. PT is helping to mitigate some of the side effects Michael has experienced from chemo. The Frescas family is looking forward to the summer as they are hopeful that by then Michael will be able to move into the maintenance phase of treatment, giving his immune system and body some time to recover from all he has been through. His entire treatment plan will last a few years.

Michael is one of three boys and enjoys being with his brothers as much as possible. They love to hunt for critters and bugs outside together! They are learning new ways of playing together that allow Michael to not tire as quickly - he’s recently become quite the drone expert!

The design of Michael’s shirt holds a deep meaning for his family. Bob Marley’s song “Three Little Birds” has been a song they consistently come back to as they work every day to keep a positive outlook as they walk this journey. The three little birds on the shirt represent Michael and his two brothers. And, of course, the shirt had to be shades of green - Michael’s favorite color! Michael is so excited to see people around him wearing his shirt, reminding each of us that no matter what we’re going through “everything is going to be alright” if we stick close together, holding each other up. Just like the Frescas boys!
