Roxy’s Story

Roxy’s journey began in September 2022. Her parents noticed a bump on her thigh which was not going away. They went to get it checked out and were given news that no parent wants to hear. They were told that Roxy had a rare cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma. This type of cancer has the ability to spread and at the time they were unsure if this had happened or not.

Roxy had surgery at the end of October 2022 - during the surgery part of her thigh muscle had to be cut in order to get rid of the cancer. Miraculously, no other cancer was found in any part of her body. After surgery, she began chemotherapy. Roxy has half a year of treatment to go and scans every three months for the next couple of years. Roxy has had to go through many treatments and hospital visits but she continues to do it all with a smile.

This journey has been hard on their entire family. In order to get Roxy the best care, they had to relocate to a different state, away from their home and family. Although there have been many challenges, they continue to remain strong in their faith. They look at their trial and see it as something that continues to bring them closer to God. They look to Him for their hope and strength even when they are worried or anxious.

A note from Roxy’s parents on the shirt’s design:

The words ‘Kiss The Wave’ come from a nineteenth-century British preacher, Charles Spurgeon, who said “I have learned to kiss the wave that throws me against the Rock of Ages.” This statement is something we have seen in our trial as something that we really want to learn. We hope to embrace and welcome every trial, or wave, in our life because it throws us closer to Him who is the only hope and solid rock, the Rock of Ages. As we wear these shirts we hope to help people see that every trial and suffering they face is there because our Maker wants us to turn to Him and find hope and refuge in His love and care.

We hope the words on the shirt will remind each one of us of the hope we have in Him in every trial we may face. We hope the words encourage everyone to face the trials and suffering in life with a smile because we all know where the wave will take us. It will take us closer to the Rock of Ages who is our only hope and strength. This will also give everyone a way to start conversations with others to point them to Jesus Christ our Savior, our Rock of Ages.”
