Will’s Story

In March 2021, Will was diagnosed with Acute lymphoblastic leukemia at 5.5 years old. He went from a normal kid in preschool to having cancer and starting harsh chemo within a few days. He did not have any symptoms leading up to diagnosis and was only sent for labs due to his eagle-eyed pediatrician noticing a few small petechiae at an asthma visit. It was a shock and has been a whirlwind ever since. His journey has had ups and downs with hospital stays and isolation while having low blood counts and immune function. Then there were allergic reactions to blood transfusions that required an Epi be administered twice. He endured 14 months of intense frontline chemo and has been on maintenance chemo ever since. Will is nearing the end of his 3.5 year treatment plan which has taken its toll on the entire family, especially his two siblings. Will has 3 more IV chemo appointments and his daily chemo at home but is set to finish it all in July. Throughout everything, Will continues to show strength and courage every day and brings joy to those around him. His smile and laughter brightens every room. He’s truly their Warrior Will and never ever gives up.

As for the next steps of the journey, the Garnant family is still trying to figure out what life will look like on the other side of cancer. There's definitely a lot of uncertainty but they are looking forward to Will being able to swim and enjoy summer after getting his port removed. They are looking forward to what their new normal will become. Throughout the entire journey, God has been so good and His faithfulness has been shown clearly in many steps of Will's journey. The Garnants fully believe there is a plan and purpose for all of this and they cannot wait to see how He continues to grow and use Will's story to show His own glory and provision!
