Hudson’s Story

From the moment of his birth, Hudson’s life has been an absolute miracle. He was born in a hallway (complete surprise baby!) not long after Covid lockdowns began. Shortly after his first birthday, he started losing weight and stopped reaching the “typical” milestones. One Friday in November 2021, Adisyn, his mom, was called while at work by his teachers saying he wouldn’t wake up at daycare. After a trip to urgent care and a diagnosis of constipation, everything seemed fine. The following Monday, Hudson’s daycare called Adisyn again saying he wasn’t acting right and wouldn’t stay awake. She quickly contacted his pediatrician who said she could see Hudson in a week or they could go ahead to the ER and ask for a head CT. They chose to go on to the ER and Hudson was admitted to the hospital where a head CT was then performed. That night, at 10:30 pm, doctors said there was some sort of mass in his brain about the size of a grapefruit and he needed to be immediately life-flighted to a children's hospital.

Two days later they attempted to remove the mass but failed because of blood loss. He was on a ventilator for four days. A couple of weeks later, Hudson received a diagnosis of Brain Cancer, Choroid Plexus Carcinoma. He was discharged from the hospital at the beginning of December 2021 and by mid-December they left for St. Jude, in Memphis, where Hudson received six rounds of chemotherapy and a surgery in March 2022 where the tumor was removed. After spending 203 days at St. Jude, Hudson was able to come home on July 5, 2022. He continues to return to St. Jude for follow ups and at this point his cancer has remained stable.

During their stay in Memphis, they were only able to see Hudson’s sister, Penelopi, four times for a couple of days at a time. It was very difficult on everyone being apart. Adisyn had to drop out of school for a semester and go on leave from her job so she could be with Hudson in Memphis. They are so thankful to be on this side of the journey – it certainly hasn’t been easy and there are many hurdles they still face but they are keeping their spirits up as they fight cancer one day at a time.

In December 2021, Hudson was given a 20% chance of survival. He has beaten all odds so far. When designing this shirt, Adisyn was continually drawn to the word ‘miracle’. Hudson’s life is a culmination of many miracles and a reminder that each one of us is a “living miracle”.
