Edward’s Story

When Edward was seven months old his mom, Sarah, noticed a slight twitch in his eye prompting her to call his pediatrician. Needing to see exactly what she was talking about, the pediatrician asked her to try to capture this twitch on camera. For the next three days, Sarah was following Edward as closely as possible trying to capture this eye twitch on camera until he ended up having a fully apparent seizure. They immediately headed to the ER. There, Edward underwent several tests and was diagnosed with epilepsy. It was later determined that Edward has a genetic mutation, DEPDC5, causing his epilepsy. This genetic mutation comes along with several complications and means that Edward will always have epilepsy, he will never outgrow it. Only time will tell what type of seizures Edward will have and how this condition will affect him. For now, he takes medicine to control the frequency of seizures and attends feeding and speech therapies to help work on some of the delays this condition has caused. Despite any delays or challenges he faces, Edward is a fun-loving, kind boy who loves running and playing (especially with his sister!) as well as making people laugh!

While the future of Edward’s condition is uncertain, his family clings to their faith. The word “enough” has become a theme in their home. Because of God, Edward is enough regardless of the challenges he may face or any diagnosis he may be given. May Edward’s life and shirt serve as a reminder to you that in your own strength you are not enough. But because of the Lord’s great love for you, He has made you in His image and that will always be enough, regardless of what you may face.
